Sidewinder

Sidewinder Trail in Eden Utah

Sidewinder trail is a four-mile loop nestled on the foothills below Powder Mountain in the Bridges housing development. Originally built in 2021 the trail had always been missing something. The trail was built in a hurry without proper concern for drainage and lacking any "flow" for mountain biking. In the spring of 2024 Eden Valley Trails decided to drastically improve Sidewinder.

The goal of the work that was carried out was two-fold. The primary concern was trail remediation from water damage and improvements that would facilitate better drainage in the future. In some parts of the trail this included extensive reworking of water crossings and rock armoring, as well as re-working the grades and cambers (angle) of the trail to aid in water flowing off, rather than down, the trail.

The secondary goal was an overall improvement of the "flow"; of the trail to make it a more enjoyable experience for all trail users. This aspect included the improvement and addition of a number of banked turns, known as "berms", the addition of some fun and challenging dirt and rock features, as well as widening the tread of the trail in multiple locations facilitate a better user experience for adaptive bikes as well.
