šŸ¦Moose Tracks! The Trail And The Ice Cream

On Saturday October twelfth, Eden Valley Trails celebrated the grand opening of the new trail they have been hard at work on the past several months, called 'Moose Tracks'.Ā  The trail spans almost five miles of terrain, connecting the southern end of North Fork Park with the north and providing an entirely new way to traverse the landscape and admire its spectacular views.Ā  It also offers the potential to create new loops with other trails already in the parks network.Ā  Designed and built as a multi-use (cyclists, hikers, and equestrians) trail, it maximizes the terrain for enjoyment and flow, while still maintaining moderate grades.Ā  As always, it was also created with a careful eye towards proper water drainage and management so that this new resource to the community will be in great shape for years to come.Ā  The Eden Valley Trails crew also managed to create an abundance of side "features" on the trail ranging from technical challenges for cyclists, carved benches for admiring the views, and even some trailside chainsaw carvings to keep the journey down the trail exciting and interesting for everyone.Ā Ā

To celebrate the much-anticipated opening of the trail, EVT hosted a grand opening celebration that included trail-themed moose tracks ice cream, an excellent raffle with prizes donated by fantastic supporters Bikers Edge, Pronghorn Bicycles, and New World Distillery, as well as some local honey provided by Wheelwright and Garlick Farms.Ā  The festivities were attended by an enthusiastic crowdĀ of over one-hundred trail users who all got to enjoy the new trail on a beautiful, if unseasonably warm, fall day.Ā  Also in attendance to take in the festivities and help with the ribbon cutting was Weber County Parks director Brad Cragen as well as several membersĀ of the Eden Valley Trails board.Ā  The enthusiasm was contagious as everyone took to the trail with many attendees riding it in both directions before the afternoon was over.Ā  The EVT crew was humbled and appreciative , yet again, of the tremendous support from the amazing trail user community.Ā Ā

Not ones to take much time to rest on their laurels, the following Monday saw the EVT crew cutting even more new trail.Ā  A just-finished, but yet-to-be-named, roughly .5 mile trail that connects "Traildemic" to "Jackass" will be another exciting addition to North Fork Park, especially as it will be groomed in the winter months for fat biking and snowshoeing alleviating a section where riders previously had to bike on the cross-country ski trail to connect singletrack sections.Ā  With winter weather fast approaching, finishing this section was instrumental in preparation for the fat-bike/ski season.Ā  With the clock ticking on available days left to work on trails the crew is spending the remaining time ticking off a list of trail maintenance and remediation objectives around the park and further afield.Ā  Stay tuned for one more update on the final stages of their fall work, and we'll see you on the trail.Ā Ā
